Borghetto Calcinaia has its own approach road, which is shared only with the local farmer. Occasionally, you’ll see his sheep on this road or grazing the next door field.
Our grounds have remote-controlled electric gates, ample parking and all-round fencing, and are surrounded by fields and woodland and, of course, the lake. A path will lead you there in the footsteps of St. Francis of Assisi.
Since our arrival at Calcinaia, we’ve been landscaping the gardens, and have planted more than 150 trees, mainly olive, but also oak and fruit to add to the almonds, plums, figs and cherries which were already here.
The gardens also have flowers, both wild and cultivated, and tubs of culinary herbs, which you are welcome to use. Our wonderful, 15 x 7 metre pool is open from May to September and is for the exclusive use of Casa Mandorlo’s guests. It has walk-in Roman steps at one end, a wraparound terrace with adjustable sun beds, and a thermal cover to keep it warm overnight.
All areas have low voltage outdoor lighting for your safety and comfort at night. Casa Mandorlo also has its own exclusive and secluded alfresco dining area with a large table and chairs, loggia and Weber barbecue.
